William Pether (1738 - 1821) was an English printmaker and painter, who was was taught by Thomas Frye.
In 1762 he engraved Frye's portrait of George III , and
for the next 15 years created more than 50 prints, many of them after Old Masters such as Rembrandt and Reubens.
He also created
some of the most dramatic mezzotints of the time while reproducing the chiarascuro effects of contemporary artists such as Joseph Wright of Derby.
