| Vladimir Bakhtov is one of the most successful artists in the Ukraine,
and his work is exhibited throughout Europe, expecially in Germany,
Greece and the Netherlands. Besides his prints, Bakhtov is known for
his Punic wax tempera paintings, and site installations that have
been done at Archaeological sites in conjunction with the Greek government.
Bakhtov lives and breathes ancient Greece: his art is intensely
focused on it, he reads all the great ancient Greek philosophers,
and he has built a large hand-hewn ancient Greek style villa (perhaps
his largest work of art) in the national archeology reserve of Olvia;
Olvia in Grecian times was the northernmost Greek megaloplis in
the Black Sea region. Human culture there goes back at least 5000
years also and some Stonehedge-like monoliths still stand today
in the Olvia area.
Bakhtov once tried living in Germany where life could have been
easier, his art would have sold more, but he returned to (Ukraine's)
ancient Greek cities- he found no inspiration for his art in Germany
- that is when he decided to build his villa in Olvia, to live and
to create art there.
