Born
in Paris and trained as a physician, Schkolnyk discovered his talent
for drawing during his studies in the art of forensics. He soon
embarked on a career as an artist, and is considered a modern master
of the mezzotint. He has enjoyed many one-man shows in Europe, Japan
and the United States.
"The
mezzotint engraver hunts for shadows. He dives deeply in the darkness
to bring out gleaming and thrilling visions. With his rocker, Schkolnyk
obstinately carves the copper for hours and hours, creating with
his own hands this velvet dark, this original night, which contains
all potential hues."
Claude Bouret, Curator of Prints
