'Time Flies" was created using both hand drawn elements as well as computer manipulation. Much of the actual work is done using traditional media and a methodical approach to rendering which owes nothing to cyberspace. The computer plays its part by allowing me the freedom to move these elements around, compose them in space and then tie them together using digital shadows, highlights and other magic. My goal is to produce work that has retained the original organic quality of a hand drawn piece while still being subject to the creative whimsy, which is the hallmark of digital media.To do this I began to work into the piece very carefully using colored pencils. I also added some black and white pastel to punch up the contrast and give it a softer look. That final touch was what turned a generally suggestive pattern into something that looks like clouds or smoke.
